The impact of Trump 2.0, economic trends, and enterprise choices
——Zhao Wei, PhD Supervisor of Zhejiang University
The report is divided into three parts.
In the first part, Professor Zhao argued that the policies of Trump's second term would be more aggressive and unilateral, continuing the "MAGA" agenda and using tariffs as a tool for external deterrence. Trump 2.0 would impact the world economy, politics, and military landscape.
In the second part, Professor Zhao pointed out that all three pathways of Sino-U.S. trade have contracted, and the Chinese economy is facing dual challenges from external shocks and internal shifts in the driving forces of the "troika" (investment, consumption, and exports). China is actively responding through measures such as the "2+2 policy," legal safeguards, and demand-side policies.
In the third part, Professor Zhao suggested that, amid an uncertain external environment, Chinese enterprises should prioritize survival in the short term, align with national strategies such as "dual circulation" and the "Belt and Road" initiative in the medium term, and rely on innovation-driven approaches in the long term to capitalize on differentiated opportunities presented by China's vast market, consumption upgrades, and technological revolution.
