A tale of two extremes: opportunities and challenges in PET bottle chip exports
——Rosy Zhao, Foreign Trade Director, Wankai New Materials Co., Ltd.

The report summarized the current state of China's PET bottle chip industry as "standing out," noting that China accounts for half of global capacity with 21.47 million tons of capacity and 17.53 million tons of output. However, the concentrated capacity rollouts over the past three years have also created supply-demand mismatches. She described the export market as "a tale of two extremes": on one hand, export volumes have declined for the first time in recent years, with trade barriers such as anti-dumping duties and safeguard tariffs stacking up and freight rates surging; on the other hand, overseas supply gaps have brought phased order increases, with strong demand from emerging markets such as Southeast Asia. Looking ahead, Zhao suggested that in the short term, companies should refine contract terms and tighten payment terms, while in the long term, they should pursue a dual-track strategy of product differentiation and globalization to achieve a breakthrough.
